Privacy policy
Last updated: 16 May 2026
The short version
Every identifier on this site is generated inside your browser. No ID, namespace, name, alphabet, or other input you type into a generator is transmitted to uniqueid.tech or to any third party. We do not run a backend.
We do load Google AdSense and Google Analytics 4 — but only after you accept the cookie banner. If you reject, those scripts are not loaded and no advertising or analytics cookies are set.
This policy sits alongside our Terms of Service, which cover the rules for using the site.
Who runs this site
uniqueid.tech is operated by an independent developer based in New Zealand. For privacy questions, including requests to access, correct, or delete personal data, contact privacy@uniqueid.tech. For general enquiries see the contact page.
What runs in your browser
The generators on this site — UUID v3, v4, v5, v6, v7, NanoID, and ULID — execute entirely as WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Inputs you provide (for example, namespace UUIDs and name strings on the v3/v5 generator, or custom alphabets on the NanoID generator) stay on your device. Generated IDs are never sent over the network.
You can verify this directly: open your browser's developer tools,
switch to the Network panel, and watch while you generate. No
requests are made to uniqueid.tech or any other host
during generation.
What we collect when you visit
We do not operate application servers and do not log requests ourselves. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which processes standard request metadata (IP address, user-agent, referrer, requested URL, timestamp) for the purposes of delivering content, preventing abuse, and security analytics. Cloudflare acts as our data processor; see Cloudflare's privacy policy for details on its handling of this data.
If you email us, your message and email address are routed through Cloudflare Email Routing to a personal mailbox. We retain correspondence only as long as needed to respond and to keep a record of the conversation.
Cookies and local storage
We use a small amount of browser storage for site functionality and, with your consent, for third-party services.
- uniqueid-theme (localStorage) — remembers your light/dark theme choice. Set only when you toggle the theme.
- uniqueid-consent (localStorage) — remembers whether you accepted or rejected the cookie banner, so we do not ask again on every visit.
- Service worker cache — caches the application shell and .NET runtime files so the site loads quickly and works offline. It does not store anything about you.
- Google AdSense cookies — set only after you accept. Used by Google and its partners to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads based on prior visits to this and other sites.
- Google Analytics 4 cookies — set only after you accept. Used to measure aggregate site usage (pages viewed, approximate location, device class). IP addresses are anonymised before processing.
None of these are essential to using the generators. If you reject
the banner, only the two uniqueid-* localStorage entries
and the service worker cache are used, and no data is sent to
Google.
Third-party services
Google AdSense
Subject to your consent, this site displays ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites, and to measure ad performance. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our sites and/or other sites on the Internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info. For more on how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and Google's advertising privacy and terms.
Google Analytics 4
Subject to your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate site usage — which generators are visited, which articles are read, and how many users return. We configure GA4 with IP anonymisation enabled, so your full IP address is never stored by Google. We do not link analytics events to any personal identifier and we do not enable Google Signals or advertising features in GA4.
For details, see Google's Privacy Policy and Safeguarding your data. You can install Google's browser opt-out add-on to block GA across all sites.
Cloudflare
Cloudflare hosts the static site and proxies all traffic. Cloudflare
sets a __cf_bm bot-management cookie on some requests
for fraud prevention; this is a strictly necessary security cookie
and is set regardless of consent. See
Cloudflare's cookie policy.
Legal bases (UK / EU users)
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on the following lawful bases:
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) — for loading Google
Analytics and Google AdSense scripts and the cookies they set.
You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing the
uniqueid-consententry in your browser's site storage, which will cause the banner to reappear on your next visit. - Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) — for operating the site, including Cloudflare's security and anti-abuse processing of request metadata. Our interest is in keeping the site available and secure; this is balanced against the limited, non-identifying nature of that processing.
- Legitimate interests — for responding to emails you send us.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), or similar laws. These can include:
- Access to the personal data we hold about you
- Correction of inaccurate data
- Deletion (right to be forgotten)
- Restriction or objection to processing
- Data portability
- Withdrawal of consent at any time, without affecting prior lawful processing
- The right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights
- Lodging a complaint with a supervisory authority
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it with third parties for cross-context behavioural advertising other than as described in the Google AdSense section above. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@uniqueid.tech. Because we do not run accounts or store user records ourselves, the data we directly hold about you is generally limited to any email correspondence.
International data transfers
Cloudflare, Google, and any other processors we rely on are international services that may process data outside your country of residence, including in the United States. These providers use standard contractual clauses and equivalent transfer mechanisms to protect personal data in transit and at rest.
Data retention
Cloudflare retains request logs in accordance with its own retention policies. Google Analytics is configured with the shortest available data-retention window for user-level data (currently 2 months); aggregate reports are retained longer. Email correspondence is kept for as long as needed to handle the matter it relates to.
Children
This site is aimed at developers and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site or its third-party services change. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes (for example, adding a new category of third-party service) will be flagged on the homepage for a reasonable period.
